UX/UI Designer cover letter example
A cover letter for a product designer moving from banking to a health app. It shows why experience with clear, tested flows carries over.
Opens in the editor with this letter. Change the company, the recipient and the paragraphs. No sign-up needed.
Why this letter works
Experience that transfers
She explains why designing for banking prepares her for healthcare: both need flows anyone can follow.
Before-and-after numbers
Completion rate and conversion show the effect of her design decisions, not just the deliverables.
Accessibility included
For a health product, specific WCAG work is a strong signal.
Paragraph by paragraph
What each paragraph does in the letter, with a short tip for that part.
Opening
I would like to apply for the Product Designer role at Tidal Health. I design financial products that have to be clear for everyone, and I would like to bring that work to a product where clarity matters just as much: people managing their health.
Name the role and say in one or two sentences why you are a strong match. Skip "I am writing to apply for…": the reader already knows.
Why this company
Your app asks patients to book, pay and follow treatment plans in a few taps. For six years I have made flows like these shorter and easier, testing them with real users along the way.
Show you know who you are writing to: a product, a project, a value or a recent step of theirs, and why it matters to you. One specific detail beats three general compliments.
Evidence
At Lumo Bank I:
- redesigned onboarding based on usability testing, raising completion from 58% to 81%
- simplified checkout from five steps to three, increasing mobile conversion by 17%
- brought the product up to WCAG 2.1 AA with better contrast, focus states and screen reader labels
Pick one or two achievements that match the ad and tell them briefly: the situation, what you did and the result. Do not repeat your whole resume.
Evidence
I also built a Figma design system of more than 120 components that cut design-to-development time by 30%, so I am used to working closely with engineers.
Closing
Thank you for considering my application. I would be happy to share case studies of these projects.
Thank the reader, say you would welcome an interview and mention when you are available. Keep it short and confident; no need to apologise or beg.
Tips for UX/UI designer cover letters
- Offer case studies instead of attaching a full portfolio; a short link is easier to open than a large file.
- Pick results from flows similar to the company’s product, such as booking, payment or onboarding.
