Opens in the editor with this letter. Change the company, the recipient and the paragraphs. No sign-up needed.
Why this letter works
Range across media
Brand, social, print and packaging are all covered with real examples, which suits a studio that works across media.
Client skills as well as craft
Presenting to clients and keeping revision rounds low tells a creative director she can run a project.
Points to the portfolio
The letter does not try to replace the portfolio; it tells the reader where to find it.
Paragraph by paragraph
What each paragraph does in the letter, with a short tip for that part.
Opening
I would like to apply for the Senior Graphic Designer position at Estudio Brava. I design brand identities and campaigns across social, print and outdoor, and I have long admired how your studio keeps a brand recognisable across very different media.
Name the role and say in one or two sentences why you are a strong match. Skip "I am writing to apply for…": the reader already knows.
Why this company
That consistency is what I focus on in my own work. At Northpoint Creative I refreshed a client’s identity, from logo and colour system to guidelines, and rolled it out across more than 200 assets without losing the brand along the way.
Show you know who you are writing to: a product, a project, a value or a recent step of theirs, and why it matters to you. One specific detail beats three general compliments.
Evidence
Other results I am proud of:
- campaign visuals that lifted paid social click-through rate by 28% over previous creatives
- an InDesign template library at Papel & Co. that cut production time for sales materials by 50%
- two years of print-ready packaging, catalogue and signage files without a costly reprint
Pick one or two achievements that match the ad and tell them briefly: the situation, what you did and the result. Do not repeat your whole resume.
Evidence
I present concepts directly to clients and keep projects to about two revision rounds, so I am comfortable owning a project from brief to final files.
Closing
My portfolio is linked in my resume. Thank you for your time; I would be glad to talk about how I could contribute to your next projects.
Thank the reader, say you would welcome an interview and mention when you are available. Keep it short and confident; no need to apologise or beg.
Tips for graphic designer cover letters
- Say what kind of work you want more of; studios hire for fit with their client mix.
- Include one result beyond looks, such as click-through rate or production time, to show your design does a job.
