Cover letter generator that matches your resume

Let AI draft your letter from your resume and the job ad, or write it yourself with a tip and example sentences for every paragraph. Either way it uses the same letterhead, colours and fonts as your resume, and you download a PDF with no watermark.

No sign-up needed to start. Downloading takes a free account; the free plan includes one cover letter.

AIAI drafts are part of Pro and the 30-day pass. The tips, example paragraphs and PDF downloads are free. See the plans

How it works

Choose, write, send

  1. Step 1

    Choose where to start

A blank letter, a ready-made example, or one of your resumes in My documents. Start from a resume and your name, contact details, template and language are already there.

  2. Step 2

    Write it paragraph by paragraph

Opening, why this company, evidence and closing. Each part has a short tip and example paragraphs you add with one click; a word count shows the length.

  3. Step 3

    Download and send

A PDF with no watermark, plus a plain Word or text copy for forms that ask for one. On every plan.

Same person, same design

Start the letter from your resume and it takes the template, colours, fonts and letterhead with it. Pick a template below to see how the two look as a set.

Help in the editor

Help beside every paragraph

A good cover letter does four jobs. The editor tells you what each one needs and offers example paragraphs you add with one click; you replace the parts in [brackets] with your own details.

The recipient, subject line, greeting and sign-off have short tips too, and the word count turns red when the letter starts to run past a page.

Read the full guide: how to write a cover letter
  1. 1

    Opening

Name the role and say in one or two sentences why you are a strong match. Skip "I am writing to apply for…": the reader already knows.

    Example paragraph
I would like to apply for the [Job title] role at [Company]. With [number] years of [field] experience, most recently at [Current company], I have done much of what the role describes, and I would like to do it for your team.
  2. 2

    Why this company

Show you know who you are writing to: a product, a project, a value or a recent step of theirs, and why it matters to you. One specific detail beats three general compliments.

    Example paragraph
I know [Company] from [how you know it: the product, a project, a talk]. What stands out to me is [specific detail], because [why it matters to you or links to your experience].
  3. 3

    Evidence

Pick one or two achievements that match the ad and tell them briefly: the situation, what you did and the result. Do not repeat your whole resume.

    Example paragraph
At [Current company] I [what you did], which [result, with a number if you have an honest one]. I would bring the same approach to [task from the ad].
  4. 4

    Closing

Thank the reader, say you would welcome an interview and mention when you are available. Keep it short and confident; no need to apologise or beg.

    Example paragraph
Thank you for your time. I would be glad to talk about how I could help [Company] with [goal or task], and I am available from [date].

What the cover letter editor does

AI on Pro and the pass

Let AI write the first draft, if you like

“Draft with AI” builds a first draft from the resume you choose and, if you paste it, the job ad. It is told to use only what is in them, and it flags any number you did not write. Nothing changes until you choose the draft, and then you make it sound like you.

Part of Pro and the 30-day pass: a draft uses 5 of your 200 AI units a month. The free plan has no AI; the tips and example paragraphs are for everyone.

Frequently asked questions

Is the cover letter builder really free?

Yes. The free plan includes one cover letter and one resume, every template, every design setting and unlimited PDF downloads with no watermark. Pro and the 30-day pass add unlimited cover letters.

Do I need an account?

Not to start: you can begin writing straight away. To download a PDF, Word or text file and keep your letter, you create a free account.

Can my cover letter match my resume?

Yes. Start the letter from your resume and it gets the same template, colours, fonts, letterhead and language. After that they are two documents: if you change the resume’s design later, choose the same template, colours and fonts in the letter’s Design tab.

Can AI write my cover letter?

On Pro and the 30-day pass, yes: “Draft with AI” writes a first draft from your resume and, if you paste it, the job ad. It is told to use only that information, flags numbers you did not write, and changes nothing until you choose the draft. A draft uses 5 AI units. The free plan has no AI; the paragraph tips and example sentences are for everyone.

Can I write a different letter for each job?

Yes, and you should: a letter that could go to any company doesn’t tell the reader why you want this one. The free plan includes one cover letter; Pro and the 30-day pass have no limit. On Pro, duplicating a letter and adapting it to the new ad is the quickest way.

Which languages can I write my cover letter in?

English, Turkish, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Dutch, Polish and Russian. The greeting, sign-off and date are written in the language you choose. The editor’s tips are available in English, Turkish, German, Spanish, French and Portuguese.

Can I download my cover letter as a PDF or Word file?

Yes, on every plan. The PDF keeps the design and has no watermark; the editor’s “⋯” menu also gives you a plain .docx and a text file for application forms that ask for Word.

How long should a cover letter be?

Less than one page: most cover letters work best at 250–400 words, and a focused 150–250 is fine too. The word count in the editor turns red above 450 words.
