Frequently asked questions

Answers about AlderCV: the free plan, the 30-day pass, ATS compatibility, photos, data safety and refunds.

Is AlderCV really free?

Yes. The free plan includes every template, every design setting and unlimited PDF downloads without a watermark. It is limited to one resume and one cover letter. Pro and the 30-day pass add unlimited resumes and cover letters, and AI is included in them: 200 AI units a month.

What can the AI do, and which plans include it?

It improves or shortens a line you wrote, writes a profile summary from your resume, matches your resume to a job ad (a score, the keywords you miss and concrete suggestions), drafts a cover letter, translates a resume and imports a PDF or Word resume. It works with what you wrote and is told never to add facts; if a suggestion still contains a number you did not write, we flag it so you can check it. Nothing changes until you choose a suggestion. AI is included in Pro and the 30-day pass, with 200 AI units a month; the free plan does not include AI. Each action uses units: a rewrite or summary 1, the larger actions 5 (a translation more for a long resume). If you need more in a busy month, you can top up with a one-time credit pack.

Is my resume used to train AI?

No. Your resume is never used to train AI models. It goes to our AI provider (Anthropic) only when you use an AI feature, for that one request, and we keep only how many AI units you used, not the text.

Do I need an account to start?

No. Open the editor and start writing. We only ask you to create a free account when you download your PDF, so your resume is saved and you can come back to it.

What is the 30-day pass?

A one-time purchase that gives you everything in Pro for 30 days. It does not renew automatically, so there is nothing to cancel. Three days before it ends we send a reminder.

Will applicant tracking systems (ATS) read my resume?

Our PDFs contain real, selectable text with standard section titles, and even two-column templates keep a logical reading order: name and contact first, then your experience, then the sidebar. We check this automatically by extracting the text from generated PDFs.

What happens to my resumes when a paid plan ends?

Nothing is deleted. On the free plan one resume stays editable and you choose which one. The others are locked: you can still see them, and they unlock again if you upgrade.

Can I write my resume in another language?

Yes. The interface is in English, Turkish, German, Spanish, French and Portuguese, and your resume can be written in any of these or in Italian, Dutch, Polish or Russian. Section titles, dates and words like "Present" follow the resume language. In the six interface languages the resume check also reads your wording: duty phrases like "responsible for", first-person words, the same verb again and again.

Should I add a photo?

It depends on the country. In the US, UK, Canada and Australia, leave it out. In Germany, Turkey and much of Europe and Asia a professional photo is common. AlderCV suggests a default based on your region, and you can switch it on or off for any template.

What if I delete something by accident?

Deleted resumes go to the trash and can be restored for 30 days. AlderCV also keeps one version of each resume per day for the last 14 days, so you can go back to yesterday with one click.

Can I export my data or delete my account?

Yes, both from your account settings. The export is a JSON file with all your resumes. Deleting your account removes your resumes and photos permanently and cancels any subscription.

Can I get a refund?

If AlderCV did not work for you, contact us within 14 days of your purchase and we will refund it, as long as no more than 20 AI units were used since. Payments are handled by Polar, our reseller and merchant of record.

Can I download a Word (DOCX) file?

Yes, on every plan: "Download as" in the editor's "⋯" menu gives you a plain, single-column Word file of the same resume or cover letter, and a plain text file. They are made for job sites and application forms that ask for Word; the design stays in the PDF, which is still the best file to send when both are accepted.
