Safety results stand out
Fewer medication errors, readmissions and infections are what nurse managers care about most.
Certifications confirmed
License, BLS and ACLS are mentioned as current, which is checked early.
Paragraph by paragraph
What each paragraph does in the letter, with a short tip for that part.
Opening
I would like to apply for the Registered Nurse position on your medical-surgical unit. I have six years of experience in med-surg and intensive care, and I currently care for six to eight patients per shift on a 32-bed unit at St. Brigid Medical Center.
Name the role and say in one or two sentences why you are a strong match. Skip "I am writing to apply for…": the reader already knows.
Why this company
Evergreen Valley’s work on patient safety and its nurse residency program are why I am applying. Safety projects and supporting new nurses are the two parts of my job I care about most.
Show you know who you are writing to: a product, a project, a value or a recent step of theirs, and why it matters to you. One specific detail beats three general compliments.
Evidence
At St. Brigid I have:
- led a double-check and barcode scanning initiative that cut medication errors on the unit by 30%
- educated patients and families on discharge plans, contributing to a 12% drop in 30-day readmissions
- precepted eight new graduate nurses through orientation
Pick one or two achievements that match the ad and tell them briefly: the situation, what you did and the result. Do not repeat your whole resume.
Evidence
In the ICU at Pinecrest Regional Hospital I served on the infection control committee, which helped lower catheter-related infections by 40%. My RN license, BLS and ACLS certifications are current.
Closing
Thank you for your consideration. I would welcome the chance to discuss how I could support your team.
Thank the reader, say you would welcome an interview and mention when you are available. Keep it short and confident; no need to apologise or beg.
