Personal Trainer cover letter example
A cover letter for a certified personal trainer applying to a health club. It opens with the certification and client load, then gives the retention and sales numbers a fitness manager looks for.
Opens in the editor with this letter. Change the company, the recipient and the paragraphs. No sign-up needed.
Why this letter works
Certification in the first sentence
NASM-CPT and five years of experience answer the first two questions a fitness manager has.
The numbers a club tracks
Client retention and package sales show a trainer who brings in members and keeps them paying.
A practical next step
Offering a practical session matches the way many gyms choose their trainers.
Paragraph by paragraph
What each paragraph does in the letter, with a short tip for that part.
Opening
I am applying for the Personal Trainer position at Northshore Health Club. I am a NASM-certified trainer with five years of experience, and at Riverline Athletic Club I train 25 to 30 regular clients a week in one-to-one and small-group sessions.
Name the role and say in one or two sentences why you are a strong match. Skip "I am writing to apply for…": the reader already knows.
Why this company
Your members range from gym beginners to people coming back after an injury. That is the mix I work with every day, and my favorite part of the job is watching a nervous beginner become a regular.
Show you know who you are writing to: a product, a project, a value or a recent step of theirs, and why it matters to you. One specific detail beats three general compliments.
Evidence
A few results from my time at Riverline:
- 90% of my clients are still training with me after 12 months
- Grew personal training revenue by 35% in a year by turning free induction sessions into paid packages
- Design every program from a movement screen and a goal-setting session, and review progress every six weeks
Pick one or two achievements that match the ad and tell them briefly: the situation, what you did and the result. Do not repeat your whole resume.
Evidence
I adapt training for clients with back pain, during pregnancy and after rehab, working alongside their physiotherapists. At Eastside Community Gym I also built a 12-week beginner strength program that four other trainers there now use. My CPR/AED certification is current.
Closing
Thank you for considering my application. I would be glad to come in for a practical session.
Thank the reader, say you would welcome an interview and mention when you are available. Keep it short and confident; no need to apologise or beg.
Tips for personal trainer cover letters
- Offer a practical session or a trial class. For a trainer it says more than another paragraph.
- Say that your CPR/AED certification is current; it saves the manager a question.
