Why this letter works

Building type, size, value and delivery date make the experience concrete.
Safety and cost together
Zero lost-time incidents and estimates within 4% are the two numbers a projects director checks.
Design and site experience
Structural design background explains why he works well with both sides.
Paragraph by paragraph
What each paragraph does in the letter, with a short tip for that part.
Opening
I would like to apply for the Senior Site Engineer role at Al Noor Developments. I have seven years of experience in structural design and site management, most recently supervising a 14-storey residential building worth $25M that we delivered three weeks ahead of schedule.
Name the role and say in one or two sentences why you are a strong match. Skip "I am writing to apply for…": the reader already knows.
Why this company
Your upcoming residential towers are the kind of project I know best, and your safety record is one of the reasons I want to work with you.
Show you know who you are writing to: a product, a project, a value or a recent step of theirs, and why it matters to you. One specific detail beats three general compliments.
Evidence
At Crescent Build Contracting I:
- manage six subcontractors and up to 120 workers on site, with zero lost-time incidents over 18 months
- prepared quantity take-offs and cost estimates that came within 4% of the final project cost
- run weekly progress meetings and client reports using Primavera P6
Pick one or two achievements that match the ad and tell them briefly: the situation, what you did and the result. Do not repeat your whole resume.
Evidence
Before moving to the site side, I designed reinforced concrete structures in ETABS and SAP2000 for eight commercial projects, so I can talk to designers and the site team in their own terms.
Closing
Thank you for your time. I would be glad to discuss your upcoming projects.
Thank the reader, say you would welcome an interview and mention when you are available. Keep it short and confident; no need to apologise or beg.
Tips for civil engineer cover letters
- Describe one project fully (type, size, value, schedule) instead of listing many.
- Always mention your safety record; on site roles it is as important as delivery.
